I like this technology and looked into it a few years back for my home, not new, not unique, ( home a 10KWh unit) but the cost was slightly more energy than what it would produce, and it still needed Nat. gas, Hydrogen, or propane. On top of the upfront costs.
Still, great idea, and glad to see it being implemented, but where did the $$ come from for such a thing?

Good to hear others are looking to take energy efficiency into their own hands...sounds like the premium was a little too much for you a few years ago and hopefully it gets cheaper so more of us can consider the technology.

To me the project seems like a good starting point to research and expand on the existing technology. While it may use nat gas, hydrogen, etc. today, it could be fed through different sources in the future. I checked out Bloom Energy's website and they are a big company and likely a large source of the funding.

It's good to see this type of investment in the future as it is difficult to do on a large scale as it is not yet profitable...as you found out a few years ago. Looks like Bloom's roots stem from NASA, perhaps they can achieve a solar driven fuel cell...then it would truly be an excellent investment in the future.

I guess if they're doing research anyway, they might as well feed the excess power back to the grid, right? I'm sure the 160 homes they refer to need more power than just one of the new buildings they have built recently. I'm sure the students appreciate the opportunities to do research and don't mind paying the extra $ it costs in their tuition.
