Carp has become a socialist state. They are anti business and anti growth. Take a look at their stupid city laws they have. Here's a couple: 1. Illegal to smoke anywhere in public. 2. Illegal to fly a remote control airplane at a park when a sporting event is going on. 3. If you pull out of any kind of driveway in carp you MUST treat it as a stop sign or else that's a ticket. 4. You have to have a license for your dog and your bicycle. Does Carp not want tourist anymore?

Semi-Truck Accident |
2012-11-09 06:19 AM |
|
There are too many large semi trucks parking along the 101 in the Gaviota/Lompoc Hwy 1 exit areas. They seem to pull over at any area that is open enough to accommodate their large hauls. And then they leave all their trash behind. Not to mention urine containers, etc. Gross. They are no longer allowed to pull over in that one area north of Refugio because of all the trash. And they are no longer allowed to pull over at the top of Nojouji (sp?) Grade because of trash/dangers. CHP should not allow truckers to pull over anywhere they feel like. I understand truckers need to nap/sleep but there are plenty of appropriate places to do this. Try motels.

It's probably construction, but if you are near the airport and you hear a low-pitched quick buzz every 10 seconds through the speakers in your radio or computer, then that is the airport radar. The radar's pulse rate is around 200 Hz, which produces a pretty low-pitched sound.

The Los Carneros one is nice - and they've done a nice job landscaping it! A few roundabouts are okay, but I just came back from the UK and if you want to see Roundabouts Gone Bad, go to Milton Keynes, where they have about 300, yes 300, in/around the town. The traffic moves fast and you don't have time to read the road signs - It's like being trapped on the tea cup ride at Disneyland. Also, a family member tells me, not so kind to tires.

839P So truckers "pull over at any area that is open enough to accommodate their large hauls." Isn't that the point? Seems like they don't have too many options on that stretch. And are they supposed to pay for a motel just to use the john? I go over the Nojoqui grade quite a lot and have never noticed piles of trash, though it's certainly dangerous.Maybe you're painting all truckers with the same brush? And let's face it, some car drivers aren't that careful with trash either.

Tex, I have a 5DMarkII, previously using the T3i which is a great camera and basically the same as the T2i. I would suggest a longer lens as the 55mm just isn't a far enough reach, unless you're really close. Assuming you're on continuous shooting, handheld? I usually am in shutter priority mode for birds, aperture as wide open as the lens goes (smaller number) and depending on the light use a higher ISO in order to get a faster shutter speed. My particular lens is a straight f/4 (would love a 2.8 but expensive and heavier). You might take it to Samy's and they could make sure it's working ok. But taking bird shots (especially hummers) takes practice and I'm still learning how to do it! Good luck!!

Very interesting. I lost my home in the Painted Cave fire and my mother lost her home in the Jesusita fire. I didn't see anyone from the state down here fighting those fires and saving our homes. There were many other local jurisdiction who were here fighting local fires over the years under mutual aid agreements, so exactly what am I paying the state for, other than another six figure bureaucratic do-nothing "job" complete with agency staff and overhead? A position that will be given to some termed out elected official to have a meeting two or three times a year at the taxpayers expense!. I think we should defer some of these fire suppression costs by holding a lottery at $5.00 a ticket to see who comes the closest to guessing how big this state agency will be, how much the head political hack will get paid, including fringe benefits, and how little they will do!

Unfortunately the traffic departments of the County and City became enthralled with the idea of "roundabouts" like they did with highly dangerous "bulb-outs". When attempts to be "innovative" overcome common sense these "traffic engineeers" often fail to read the technical literature which specifies WHERE roundabouts are efficient and why. They are primarily designed for intersections where there is a high speed through street and the intersecting streets have difficulty crossing or entering resulting in very dangerous "T-Bone" type accidents or for very complex multi-entry intersections. The most prominent study revealed that 4 way stop signs at regular urban and semi-rural intersections are at least as efficient and have a lower accident rate than inefficient roundabouts that have been intalled where they are inappropriate.

I know this is like throwing holy water on a vampire, but California is not one of the states that has the highest tax burden per capita, From the 2009 data, we are only 8th in per capita tax collections for local and state taxes. That burden of 11.8% of income compared to an average of 9.8% for all the other states. (Ca Tax Foundation Data). Non-public safety pensions which are the majority of the retirees only account for about 50% of the pension costs. The remaining costs are for the relatively small number of firefighter and cop pensions who can retire young and get much larger pensions than clerical workers and engineers. But no one is arguing that the cops and firefighters don't deserve these nice pensions, are they? But don't a let any facts get in the way of some good public pension bashing! Have at it.

Since the only other person in town consistently covering breaking news is Roger, I'm grateful that they send in their reports and provide me with information. Thanks UH, thanks Edhat and of course, thanks Roger.

857, actually the area at Nojoqui summit had signs saying litter would cause the closure of the area. They were up for a long time. Then the area was blocked off and the signs replaced with ones saying litter caused the closure. I don't want tired truckers staying on the road, but people need to police themselves. It's pretty easy to know if you just tossed something out or kept it in your vehicle to throw out at the next stop.

My gripe...so many bicycle riders and joggers aren't using the paths built for them. I had a guy behind me on a bike yelling at me to go the other day. This morning a girl was jogging on the road, against traffic and gave me a look because when I drove through I got close to her! It's so narrow, I had no choice!

3 cheers for Chaucer's. Physical books have one thing ebooks will never have, personality. You can pickup and hold a book and each feels unique, its own little world of smell, print type, and tactile sensations. You can look backwards and forwards with ease, you can make notes as you like or not, you can quickly see how far into you are, quickly find out how any pages are in it, etc... None of these things can be had with ebooks. This is why I like physical books over ebooks, I don't think physical books will be going away any time soon. Hooray for our very own Chaucer's for preservering. I wish The Earthling would have survived too.

It's important to note that cyclists can take the lane and have the same rights as vehicles when they are in the lane. The multi-use paths are really designed for pedestrians and inexperienced riders. As far as the Islamic center (someone asked here), it's still working its way through the planning process. You can contact Scott Kolwitz at the City (961-7500 or skolwitz@cityofgoleta.org) if you have more specific questions or want to be added to the interested parties list.

There were accidents at this location and that is one of the reasons why the City moved forward with this project - to improve public safety. Traffic data actually shows that the severity of accidents is reduced in roundabouts because the impacts tend to be at lower speeds and as side impacts rather than T-bones.

However, now that Amazon has to charge sales tax that is changing back. Why pay tax and shipping when I don't have to. I am glad the big box stores are gone. I prefer to support local businesses.

I have a bee question. I live in a fairly rural location and my neighbors often let beekeepers keep their hives (white wooden boxes) in a nearby meadow. I am a "bee fan" and have never minded their presence. Recently, though, a new batch of bees was brought in and they're behaving differently than any other bees that have resided nearby. These ones come and crawl all over my (tiny) lawn and congregate in my potted plants. It's almost like they're digging in the soil. Is this a different type of bee? Are they looking for something (water?)... Or, is this some kind of seasonal behavior that I've just not noticed before? We have to wear shoes when we outside - they're all over the place! I'd ask the beekeepers, but they seem to come rarely - and then it's usually late at night.

to answer 895's question, here is the City of SB's ordinance: 6.28.030 Number and Location of Hives. A. No more than four (4) hives shall be maintained on lots having less than 10,000 square feet in area. On lots larger than 10,000 square feet, no more than one (1) hive shall be maintained for each 5,000 square feet of additional lot area. B. Hives shall not be placed within twenty (20) lineal feet of any public street, sidewalk, or other public thoroughfare. (Ord. 4621, 1990; Ord. 4460, 1987; Ord. 4346, 1985; Ord. 3769, 1975; Ord. 3642, 1974.) It is strongly recommended that you speak with your surrounding neighbors to let them know about your desire to keep bees on your property beforehand. Offer to share some honey with them, and 99% of the time, they will be thrilled about it. County regulations differ from the city and are a bit more restrictive, but again, it is usually just a matter of discussing with your neighbors first. Bee well & bee happy! SBBA.ORG

935, sorry about that! I have to take personal responsibility for not responding to your plum tree bees. SBBA is just one year in the making, and are going through some growing pains due to the overwhelming response from the community, and the quantities of requests that we have been receiving for rescues. A few have fallen through the cracks :-( We now have a volunteer that is taking all of the calls and routing them to our 7 rescue tech volunteers (myself included). All of us volunteers do our best, and do so without any compensation, and in our "spare time". On the positive side, we have performed, at last months count, over 250 rescues and relocation's this year. Comment 940, can you post a picture of the bees you are talking about? It sounds possibly like yellow jackets to me if they are hanging out around the soil. This is yellow jacket season, but with this cooldown, they should be leaving.

I care, but wasn't sure who to contact at the City. It was annoying when walking our dog but when we started taking a stroller along with us it became a hazard. Is blocking the sidewalk worth just a sign that says "Bump"? What's worse is there are a dozen other speed bumps along Portesuello that don't need the cautionary sign. So whom do my anonymous neighbor and I call at the City?

ADA is the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, which attempts to ensure equal access to public areas and areas of employment to people with a range of physical disabilities. It is not a building code and is not enforced by anyone but the Department of Justice by lawsuit or settlement in federal court. If you feel strongly about this, you can get the complaint forms online to submit to DOJ. The local building standards code, in our case currently the 2010 California Building Code, contains in Chapter 11 the regulations for new work in accessible public areas, which would be 32" min. clear width at the pole (and max. 2% cross slope on the sidewalk). If it isn't wide enough you can complain to the city or county public works dept. since it is in the road right-of-way, and they may in fact listen since the threat of federal lawsuit is real and has been exercised many times.

It's especially bad when the construction trucks that park there block more of the sidewalk with their mirrors. What I find curious is that a City inspector is supposed to go out and look at the results of each project that is done in the City. When the inspection was done, either they didn't do their job or didn't care about this. Plus when other inspections were done for nearby projects, such as the recent Portesuello realignment at Modoc, the City Inspector missed it again. Maybe the inspectors need to be assigned a portion of the City, like a beat cop, and then they would care more about what happens in their assigned area?

I've only driven through the new one in Goleta a few times but it too seems to work well. I did notice a few drivers hesitate, but they'll get used to it. I second GOLETAPIO's note about cyclists. Parents send their children off to college without a clue of what their limits are with alcohol or how to recognize the danger of drugs, both with themselves and with their friends. There are many clueless students at UCSB who lived in a bubble until they started school and suddenly find themselves surrounded by party and temptations they haven't dealt with before. Traffic sign law is federal law, regulated by the DOT (Department of Transportation), published in the MUTCD (Municipal Uniform Traffic Control Devices manual). Local governments are prohibited from installing signs that don't conform with the MUTCD. This sign doesn't conform with the MUTCD because it's not facing approaching traffic, but it's a warning sign that doesn't need to be there, so it's probably a moot point. The city of SB doesn't acknowledge the MUTCD, in any case, although it's the basis of the Homes on Wheels decision against the city in 2003. The MUTCD doesn't address pedestrian issues, but I'm sure SB city code includes restrictions on blocking sidewalks. It's surprising that no one has walked into this sign and injured themselves in 4 years - nuts!

OP here. @866 - I eat vegan 50% of the time - eliminated milk replaced with almond milk, eat textured vegetable protein instead of ground beef, satein, etc.. only eat cheese locally made from grass fed, free range cows (farmers market), organic chicken, etc... So when I want beef, I will eat good beef. But thanks for your concern. Really bummed that Lazy Acres is from Uruguay - and same for Trader Joe's from South America :( Going to try the Hollister Ranch at Shalhoob's and Plow to Porch... Thanks for the recommendations!

Complaints like this ought to be directed to the Public Works Dept of the City where it can actually lead to a change, for better or worse. Complaining to the baker about the butcher is not going to get the butcher's attention.

First, take tons of pictures so that if you ever move out, you have proof of what was dirty when you moved in. Second, Folex is an absolute God-send. It will remove almost any stain (rust, dirt, wine, blood, animal accidents), and won't attract new ones like water does. Put in a machine with filtered water and your carpet will be like new. I've no idea what to do with the laminate. Comet?

I love Chaucer's! Sometimes I just get a craving to hold a book in my hands. I do wish they had more space to just hang out and read for awhile, but I will always go there to buy my books. I think when they said "wrong side of town," they meant "not downtown". They mentioned Borders being at the busiest intersection in town, so I think it was in comparison to that. Not a great choice of words though.

What a pleasure to read! Yay Chaucer's indeed. Thanks Mr. Ayer (for those unaware, his parents live(d) here; lost their home in Painted Cave fire; his parents moved here in '64.) My father helped Mahri set up a computer system when Chaucer's was at Five Points. Been going there most of my life; worked xmas season there decades ago. Employees are great, especially Barbara. I buy myself a book there once a year, as a birthday present.

Yes, lets gather stones and pitchforks and march to his house! I'll light the torches... Seriously, this kid did something that makes lots of people's blood boil including my own. Yet its kind of pointless to make diagnoses and demand specific punishment. While we all likely have complaints regarding our legal system we DO have a legal system and he's smack in the middle of it right now. I trust he'll be evaluated and get considerable punishment and hopefully the proper medical/psychiatric care. That said, let me add my own worthless conjecture; I wonder if he shows the other two signs of a truly disturbed youth... bedwetting and firesetting?

Oh this just gets more frustrating to hear about by the minute. So he runs up behind and stabs the guy in the back of the neck when they guy isn't even looking! Sounds more like total ignorance and a lack of mental capacity than disrespect. The Defense is trying to say which gangbanger? and one of the shining individuals Mother is saying Bible study at the time of the stabbing? WTH? Dang, if this doesn't put the issue of a gang injunction in the spotlight, I don't know what will. I really hope a lot of Cops read this and do something about it, injunction or not.

I hope that this type of crime is enough to serve as a 1st strike so that he can end up in prison for life, which is where he needs to be. Unfortunately, dogs are considered property, and property crimes are usually not serious enough to be considered for the 1st strike laws. They should tell us what kind of drugs he was on as a warning to other kids.

I am speechless. And more so by this: $20,000 fine or 1 year in prison or both. No where near enough time in jail for this, IMHO. California Penal Code: Animal Welfare Provisions §597. Cruelty to Animals §597. Cruelty to animals. (a) Except as provided in subdivision (c) of this section or Section 599c, every person who maliciously and intentionally maims, mutilates, tortures or wounds a living animal or maliciously and intentionally kills an animal, is guilty of an offence punishable by imprisonment in the state prison or by a fine of not more than twenty thousand dollars ($20,000), or by both the fine and imprisonment, or, alternatively, by imprisonment in the county jail for not more than one year, or by a fine of not more than twenty thousand dollars ($20,000), or by both the fine and imprisonment.

Cal-fire contracts with SB County Fire for service in SRA's. The initial response to small fires is the responsibility of SB Co. Fire. In bigger fires, such as the Jesusita and Tea fires, there were Cal-Fire Incident Management teams assigned to the Unified Command Teams. These teams are Type 1 teams (the highest rating possible) and consist of 10-15 members. During the Zaca Fire one of the Cal-fire incident management teams was sent to SB for two weeks to develop a plan in case the Zaca fire come over the ridge and down into SB. That plan cost $3M to develop. A year later, that plan was put in to action in the Gap fire and then two more times within a year for the Tea and Jesusita fires. Without the Cal-Fire plan the result of the fires would have been a lot worse. Also, even though there were many other juristictions who assisted in all the fires, Cal-Fire (the State) pays for the costs of to fight fires in SRA's. I believe the Cal-fire cost of the Jesusita fire was around $17M.

980P here - Parents need to talk to their kids, educate them and get them drunk at least once in the safety of their own home. We teach them to balance their checkbook, how to cook and to do their laundry (well some of us do) but alcohol and drug education is not something many parents do, they think that their kids are good and won't experiment. NOT TRUE! They need to be taught that just the same as safe sex, etc. It IS up to parents to make sure that their kids know how to be safe when they go out into the world as young adults... otherwise they will learn the hard way and the hard way can kill.

They tried seeding the clouds here before, it didn't work. There was rain this morning in Santa Ynez but it is hard to predict exactly where the clouds will go, they could have come here too but didn't. It's sad but ultimately it IS nature, not the weatherman, who decides if it is going to rain here or not. We all want some rain I'm sure, and we'll get some, but guess not today.

Rather than the laws of science, the laws involving litigation exist. Can you imagine who will get sued if the government causes rain to fall, and a car accident happens or a flood occurs damaging property and/or causing personal injury? I'm all for rain seeding, but tort reform is necessary first, yes?

Stray, luckily suing the government is different than suing a private individual. There are many exceptions for suing a government agency under tort law. I have a feeling (without researching this first) that there is probably some exception for cloud seeding in certain circumstances.

Ummm... My education was worth a lot, provided I was willing to move somewhere else. As for staying here? I was paid 30% less (and classified 2 levels lower) at UCSB than I would have been at UCB or UCSC for the same work. Then when I was brave/ stupid enough to leave a secure job to start my own business, thanks to CA's anti-business environment, and the obscenely high prices here, I'm now earning less (and worth less) than I was 3 decades ago, right out of college. Way to grow the middle class CA & SB! [We're in a business that is thriving nation-wide, but not in CA. We stay local because of family. We're regularly kicked in the teeth by anti-business govt bureaucracies & other factors beyond our control. This area is brutal to most small businesses.]

I have a Hoover Floormate for my tile floors and I Love It. I love it so much, when the first one "died" I bought another one (luckily they upgraded the model in the meantime). Spinning brushes do all the elbow grease work for you. Cleaning solution is sprayed and then sucked back up so the floors dry super fast. Refill solution is available at the vacuum shop in Goleta on Calle Real near Outback Steakhouse! Folex for the carpet is an excellent suggestion.

I am not saying (unlike others here will undoubtedly do) that anyone who falls from the cliffs due to intoxication deserves their fate, but there have been many, many deaths over the decades from this exact combination of inebriation and cliff edge. There have also been some suicides, but the majority of deaths have been simple accidents fueled or caused by drugs or alcohol. If there's any left over barrier supplies, I have a suggestion for where they can put them....

Suspect Arrested in Arson / Killing... |

I personally believe that these kinds of animal abusers should be sentenced to community service at local animal shelters instead of going to jail. Jail won't teach them anything about the crime they committed, but it may well make them more anti-social. When you have to care for neglected, abused and abandoned animals, it directly addresses the issue, and it becomes very hard to keep working with them without your heart wanting to reach out to them. A sentence like this (perhaps two years, twice a week) is much more effective than throwing them in jail or having them pay a fine. What do we really want here? Revenge, or reforming/repairing a human that, for whatever reason (child abuse, drugs, wrong crowd etc) lacked the comprehension that animals are not objects on which to dump negative emotions caused by other things. What proof do we have that imprisoning (or castrating, or doing all of the things some of you have proposed above), makes one bit of difference?

Some of these comments are so breathtakingly cruel that it's hard to even comprehend. I just read the facebook account of someone who had been in the ER today and heard the 'unhuman' wails of a mother who had obviously just lost a child. My friend was drained to the core with sadness for this woman, so I came to edhat to see if perhaps there had been a terrible accident and found this. I don't know if it was this young mans mother in the ER losing her mind, but I don't doubt that somewhere there is a mother whose world has just collapsed upon itself. Please. Take a step back from your rancidness and have some compassion.

I have no intention of being callous, but wanted to say, generally, but 118P's post led me to think this, that any local news source would carry these stories in any town or city. True that UCSB carries the "party school" label, but I went there and I think it's silly. It's all what you put into your education; it's individual choice (I probably would not have attended if I had to live in IV; I grew up in SB, lived in SB during college & commuted to school by bus). Every town that suffers horrible college situations has to deal with this, i.e., hazing, fraternity issues, alcohol poisonings/deaths, shootings, etc., that reach the national media level. It's there too, in the local media, and I'm sure the locals grieve about it as we do.

At 11:45 AM it appeared to be solidly anchored a distance from Butterfly Beach. I could see a taut anchor line and the boat did not seem to be drifting. Within 1/2 an hour, it had broken free and due to exceedingly rough water, had drifted toward the beach and lodged in the sand just beyond the wave break. It has a dinghy tied to it. I think the owner attempted to properly secure it, but the wind and waves were too strong. It definitely looked well-cared for and maintained.

Washed Up Boat |

the real travesty here is that the county launched a helicopter. Were they going to "blow" it back out to sea? Worse case scenario was the boat hit the beach, the owner jumped off onto the beach, cracked open a pacifico, and called it a day.... and the policy is, the owner has from three to seven days, depending on hazards, to arrange for removal. After that, the city or county (depending on jurisdiction) has it removed and sends the owner a bill. They will try to recover the costs, but most times the anchorage folks are pretty much broke.

Dang, I wish I could edit my posts! Construction never caused the sounds I occasionally hear or heard I've been through rebuilding/resurfacing of 101, rebuilding of buildings, rebuilding of a lane onto the 101, replacement of water mains and whatever the heck was done with Cottage/Oak Park drainage well before any Cottage demo or reconstruction. I can tell when it's my ears or occasional, not chronic, tinnitus. I always wonder if that's what it is. But there's a lot of stuff going on out there in the night! I'm happy I can hear owls, crickets and song birds in spring & summer. I still always wonder about the late-night jets. And the stuff I can't figure out? I fall asleep. As I said, I'll never know.

Part of the anal quality of that first house might be new installation. That perfect strip of sod between two pristine rows of concrete cannot have weathered too many SB summers, and the paint looks newly applied. The plants around the foundation look like they just came out of nursery containers.

Goleta's first ever roundabout has ... |
2012-11-09 08:05 PM |

The national study was done just prior to the instalation of Milpas/101 roundabout and in fact it included the Santa Barara roundabout at the "5 points intersection" of Salinas/APS/Eucalytus Hill Road, a 5 way stop sign controlled intersection before the mini-roundabout was installed there. The accident rate went up (just as it has at the Milpas Roundabout installed later). In addition numerous road rage incidents still occur there as they do at the Milpas Roundabout. The report concluded that the accident rate went up at the Salinas/APS/Eucalyptus road roundabout because the 5 way stop sign controlled intersection was safer than the roundabout. The trade-off for some, is more accidents now but less damage (to autos) because of the forced speed reduction by the angle of the off-set required to enter the circle.

The Painted Cave fire was over in less than 15 hours. The only fire crews that came into our totally incinerated 100+ home community, was a crew from Glendale. If anyone from the state ever came it was too late to do anything. As far as the Zaca fire went, it was almost enirely in the federal Las Padres Forrest. I don't believe any "habitable dwellings" were lost, or for that matter even located in the fire area. Past experience would lead any sensible person to recognize that whenever the state is creating a new huge beauracracy with the power to impose another tax for services already paid for by the tremendous amounts of property taxes we all must pay, that it is likely a boondoggle designed to gin up more bureaucrats and appointees to earn 6 figure incomes to positions held by termed out politicians who want to keep their nose in the public trough.

As a teacher, I've had dozens of UCSB student teachers over the years. Usually the Westmont student teachers were far better than UCSB students. I do acknowledge however UCSB has good attributes, some good departments. It would be nice if there were more publicity about the contributions of UCSB for the good of our community and world.

As usual, a lot of spouting without knowledge. You do not have to have clouds. You have to have the right thermal/humidity profile in the atmosphere. The "seeding" is the spraying of minute particulates (silver based) into the atmosphere so that water vapor can condense onto the particulates and form droplets heavy enough to form clouds. The effects are very unpredictable. But there are places in the world where this technology is utilized on a very regular basis.

Carpinteria Structure Fire |

I love the "Monday morning quarterbacking". Let me say as a non-fireman, I'm damn impressed that they were able to keep the residence from burning, especially since the mini van in the driveway burned. As far as the number of chief officers that were present, they are paid a salary whether they are working or not. Also, the "extra" chief present was the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Chief. Last time I checked, he is salaried. And he showed up to join the effort at 2:20 in the morning. He didn't have to do that. How many people do you know who show up to work at 2:20 in the morning for a hazzardous job when they don't have to? And you're complaining about what?

$2.00 News Press |

I find it sad the degree to which the SB News Press has declined in recent years. Being from the East Coast originally, we used to get our news from the N.Y. Times, or the Herald Tribune, both of which used to be excellent sources for the daily news. Moving to SB in the mid 60's of course we found the News Press a substantially lesser paper, but where it counted, for national and international news, it was almost as good as the N.Y. papers 40 years ago. Their Editorial page in those days was excellent also, featuring the top syndicated columnists of the day including Drew Pearson and Tom Wicker. News coverage has declined in general in American newspapers, not just the News Press, but I understand people's frustration with our local journal's limitations in 2012.

Compared to most anywhere else in the continental U.S. the answer is a resounding YES!!! Santa Barbara IS the closest thing to paradise we're likely to find. Now, if you prefer climatic extremes, scorching desert heat, and frigid Arctic cold, or weeks of torrential rains, or years of parched drought, then perhaps the central coast isn't your cup of tea. But for the rest of us, it doesn't get much better than this, anywhere else in the world.

EITS - It's a pot plot, if you look closely at the leaves silhouetted against the ocean. Now, from the relative angles of the oil rigs and the island peaks, maybe some clever law enforcer could triangulate on the location and give the OP some quality time in the slammer.

Love this pic, poster. Thank you so much for sharing. My dad used to be a salesman at Cadillac & Oldsmobile. Why do I remember the showroom being right at State & 101, NE corner? Fun to see the concrete "guide" in the street for left turning lanes. Just shows you how much slower and more careful drivers used to be. Seeing those, and the narrow right turn lane really brought back memories.
