@217P I think nobody would mention Stoker were it not for the fact that he's running for office. Everyone knows that Greka is the epitome of the irresponsible, penny-wise and pound-foolish corporation, so the fact that Stoker continues to prostitute himself is relevant.

Perhaps try some of the other non profit fundraiser type craft and art sales...they tend to be well attended with an audience a bit more dedicated to making a purchase (becasue they are fundraisers). That way you could pick and chose your time and event. They will still be those 12 hour days though. Shows can be fun, busy, boring, frustrating...be prepared as you will be dealing with "the public" in all its forms, pleasant and ugly.

I'd say go to a local awning company with your idea. They could customize to your size/shape needs. A friend in AZ uses them for shade but they are triangular in shape, need very sturdy structures to connect to, and flap in the wind. She says the rectangular ones almost impossible to get tight enough to look right and not flap (snap) badly. If you need permanent year round shade, sails don't work as the shade pattern shifts a great deal as the sun moves through the sky during the seasons.

I just bought one at Home Depot (Garden Dept outside). You can also find sail shape or rectangular ones on line. However, I agree with 31027. We had a pergola to attach it to, but the sail was not quite the right size (too big). You might be better off working with a canvas person.

Call Laura Condon at 805-560-7557 to learn more about eligibility criteria and the application process. She is the contact person for the show at city parks and recreation dept. I have been in the show for over 25 years and do well enough to keep selling there. If you have a good product and the right attitude you can do well. It is work, not a place to go hang out and have fun. If you enjoy what you do then it is fun work! It should cost just under $300 to get an initial permit to sell for 6 months. Currently there is room for new members in the show. Each artist or crafts person is required to be present and sell only there own work. Spaces are assigned based on attendance so the only penalty for not showing every Sunday is you may not have an assigned space in a desirable spot. The income potential versus cost of show is great, but some days are slow while other days are great.

There are lots of options to find out what you need to know. KEYT is less than worthless when it comes to emergencies.

Vacation Rentals |
2012-08-20 09:05 AM |

Agree with 090. If everyone behaved like an adult, there wouldn't be an issue (given all fees are paid). The problem I foresee is that a vacation rental is simply that, a vacation. People behave a bit differently when they are on vacation. Not to say everyone does, but many do get a bit out of hand with parties many nights when others have to work the next day. The only real options are to continue with it, allowing it to bother certain groups of neighbors, stop it completely and shut out the vacationers, or police it (which we know won't have much effect if its a new crop of people every year).

Vacation Rentals |
2012-08-20 09:38 AM |

Up in the Santa Barbara Highlands, several of the townhouses here are used for vacation rentals. Unless you lived next door to one and saw different people coming and going throughout the year, you would never know they were vacation rentals. Quite often you hear people hanging out at the pool speaking a foreign language, and that's the only giveaway that they are here on vacation. Not a problem here. The biggest problems always seem to be in the neighborhoods that are close to the beach. The area behind the Cabrillo and Santa Barbara Inns is a big vacation rental area, as is the whole West Beach area. But they have been like that for decades, so anyone moving in there should have known what they were getting into.

OP here - LOL @ Ed. I'm glad I didn't have to try to explain it verbally, I would have gotten tongue-tied for sure! To all who suggested online or in a hardware store; I'm looking for someone to install it for me so it is done right (e.g. no flapping or drainage issues) and I can call them to come and fix it if there are problems. @300 - that's exactly where I got the idea from. Had lunch at Pizza Mizza on Saturday. I have very little shade in my back yard and have been looking for an inexpensive workaround. Thanks for your input everyone. I don't like them, and have never gotten one (even though I was in the Navy), but I think it's clear that the popularity of tattoos, as well as their social acceptance, is at an all-time high. I see more and more women getting tattoos everywhere on their body. To our chagrin, our grown son just got his second tattoo. Thankfully, both of his tats are easily covered up by clothing. I still can't get past my automatic reaction when I see someone with tats all over their head and/or neck. "What were they thinking" always pops into mind.

Tagging is not the same as graffiti. IMO, graffiti can look much better than much of the junk that gets legally built all over town. Tagging is simply using a pen to rep your name/gang, whatever. There is no artistic value in tagging, graffiti actually takes some thought. I've actually always wished there were a place where people could put up their artwork, like venice, and queens. The queens neighborhood is actually pretty cool, as the work must first be approved by the "organizer" so as not to go over another artist's work.

Tattoos, like any art, are highly personal and a matter of one's own taste and liking. I don't have one, but I confess to wanting one in my younger days. Now older and wiser, I have no regrets to live with regarding a fading, irrelevant or just plain stupid tattoo. We've discussed this at length with our teenage son, and he is free to do what he wants when of age. I saw 17 y/o Olympic swimmer and phenom Missy Franklin's Olympic rings tattoo, and remarked, "she has the coolest parents on earth". An Olympic rings tattoo is absolutely the coolest in my opinion...

I'm a 47-year-old professional woman with a master's degree in education (for those of you who think people with tattoos are less educated) and two tattoos. One is a colorful Celtic bracelet design around my wrist, always visible unless I'm wearing long sleeves. It was a gift from my husband on our 14th wedding anniversary. The main difference between tattoos and other forms of self-expression is that they're permanent. But everyone has his or her own personal style, including the way you dress, the jewelry you wear, your accessories, your eyeglass frames, the color and style of your hair, facial hair - even your car. It doesn't mean you're starved for attention if you happen to like purple bell bottoms or a handlebar mustache. My tattoos are two personal pieces of art I get to carry with me all the time. The designs also have personal significance related to my family background.

Roger, maybe the "oh mommy please make them stop" was the girl screaming her head off and totally panicking at Claire's this weekend because she didn't want to go through with getting her ears pierced? She must have been at least 12, it was an awful sound... I don't know why they didn't just let her go, she was screaming like a banshee, my daughter & I had to leave.

They are really popular, probably in part to the reality tv shows "miami ink" and others. I got one when I was 40 but it was very personal and something I thought about for a long time, it's also in a spot I can easily hide it. But I think that tats are at an all time popular... they are more affordable these days, there is a plethora of artists and styles, and it has become more accepted to see on professional people.

I think for people under 40 they're really popular. Neither my boyfriend nor I have any, but we're about the only ones in our friend group who don't have any. It's more common to have them than not for people our age I think (we're in our late 20s). Also, SB seems to be more accepting of visible tattoos than other parts of the country.

I have 25 years experience with shade structures...would be happy to help. Charlotte@dancingshadowsshade 895-5842 Square panels are best as they can be tensioned into hypar shape. No matter where you attach triangular panels they are always flat and therefore can flap in high wind. Substantial support points and well tensioned steel cables should be used for stability and safety.

We're currently on vacation in Hawaii. I get the cultural background of tattoos and am not surprised to see most locals have a few. But what's pretty shocking is that the majority of tourists have one. Yes, many tattoos are in discrete locations. But when everyone is walking around in bikinis and shorts, it's obvious that tattoos are the norm rather than exception.

A unique way to grow fresh vegetabl... |

Hey FLICKA, I hear the price concern a lot. The tower I have is costing me 1 payment of about $117, and 11 payments of around $61. The Tower Tonic (100 earth and sea mineral salts in solution, not chemical fertilizer) run about $40 for a year's supply. The unit is built like a battleship, will last decades, and will provide a large amount of food for you and your family. If you are spending $15/week or more for your veggies (greens, tomatoes, squash, lettuce, cucumbers, etc) then the thing pays for itself, easily. When it is paid off after the first year, it will be earning you money especially here in SB where we grow year 'round. I am not against digging in the dirt, I love raised beds, but they are not the most efficient way to grow food.

I had the same problem...we vacuum every other day, flea combed the mainly indoor cat several times a day after giving her Advantage twice (which I hate doing) and finally got a flea trap which is basically a small light over sticky paper. You might unfortunately catch a few spiders too lured by the dead fleas but it works. OSH has the flea traps and they are non toxic...Lamps and bowls of soapy water work too but not if you have kids or adults who don't watch where they are going. Good luck!

What ever happened to the three juveniles that were caught last month - 2 were on probation for prior graffiti arrests, the third on probation for other crimes? There certainly was a lot of news about the arrests. I understand with juveniles you can't release the names, but surely we can find out if they were actually punished - or did they walk ... What the news needs is a followup report.

The coty of SB has staff who go around and report property owners who have been tagged and fine them if they don;t fix the tagging. It;s just so backwards. You have to get and fine and make thiese kids work it off or they will not stop. that attitute ("oh their just kids we should relax") only perpetuates this crime and leads to more crime. and cost...

I grew up in my family's restaurant bsuiness and recall many of the customers who were WWII navy vets had tatoos. The longer they had the tats the worse they looked. There is an article on this over at Noozhawk, with pictures. The SUV doesn't appear to have much damage. It was on the southbound side. Can't help but wonder if foul play was involved. The accident is unlikely the actual cause of death, based on the images and the "crime scene" mentioned in the article.

Comparing Navy tattoos (done with cheaper ink, less sophisticated equipment than we have today) to tattoos done even in the 60s is kind of cheap. There are plenty of people in their 60s now who got tattoos in the 60s and 70s whose ink looks just fine.

@Aquaholic - I'm pretty sure those tattoos were temporary. Nearly every swimmer I saw had the same rings in one place or another. While some may have a real tat, I doubt Franklin's was real. That being said, if I participated in the Olympics, I would get the rings without a doubt. But not until after I completed my first olympics (I would think it would be presumptive to get it before you complete your first race).

I guess the ONLY possible reason to watch would be local sports coverage. But ever since they canned Jerry Fall, they have failed to find anyone worth watching. I find them visually repulsive for the most part. It's personal taste. I didn't set out to dislike them so much. I just do. I particularly dislike sleeves and huge expanses of tatooed flesh. It looks dirty to me and aesthetically cluttered and boring. I can't fathom why someone would want a permanent mark on their body when life (and art) are about constant change. Also, at this point, getting a tattoo is so unoriginal. I can't wait until this fad is over. It's like when every girl had to show everything from just above her privates to just below her breasts. It seemed a pathetic attempt to get attention and go with the crowd, especially since most girls didn't have the figure to pull it off.

Good guess, 395, but no, it's another Celtic knot design on my left shoulder. I'm not the one who brought up the education issue; I was only responding to the person who mentioned that people with tattoos are uneducated. I couldn't care less about trying to impress you with my education. On another note: I always wear sunscreen on my tattoos when they're exposed so they don't fade. And I got them on parts of my body that I knew wouldn't "expand" with age. I got my first one when I was 28, and my second when I was 38. I designed both of them myself and thought about and researched the designs for a long time. Some of us put a lot of thought into our tattoos.

Personally I don't care for them. If you're going to get them that's your business, but when working in a business (restaurant, bank, dr's office, etc), I think they should be covered. What you show in your "off time" is up to you, but at work what you wear represents the business, as does your hair, hygiene, tattoos etc. Plus if you're going to get one, don't go cheap. I've seen some really bad art as well as bad ink. There are a lot of "DIY home tattoo rigs" people are trying. Hmm home tattoo... just spend the money and get it done right (safely). PS. Just know someone who got a huge one, wow is it ever ugly. Art was bad to start with and ink wasn't much better. Poor girl is going to have to live with that ugly thing (or huge scar from removal) now.

They do not express my level of education, intelligence, religious or political beliefs. They are just part of who I am and how I want to look. Simple as that. I did not get them for attention. I merely like how they look on MY body. I do agree that many people get some reall stupid tattoos.. check out the website wtftattoos for some prime examples!

I don't have a tattoo and I use to think they were ugly on men and women then I started seeing some really beautiful body art. I don't mind them anymore as long as they're well done and creative. What I tend to see today is a lot of what I call "body doodling". That's what I call it when there are just a bunch of random tats everywhere rather than well thought out body art. Interestingly, I work in a professional office and 6 of the 60 people working here have tats and of those six, 5 are women who all have multiple tats. The one man has multiple tats as well. I think IMHO women tend to look worse with tats when they're trying to be more dressed up because tats can compete with a more dressy look and become distracting.

I am a husband, father, business owner, home owner, tax payer and community volunteer. Growing up, I never fit in anywhere. I was the kid that was picked on for being different. I didn't know I was different or weird, but that is how I was branded. I like tattoos, though I sometimes forget I have them. I hate attention, but I found the greater lengths I went to hide from the public eye, the more attention I brought on myself. Once I got tattooed, I immediately became more comfortable with myself. I don't know why I torture myself by reading these hurtful comments when this topic is posted. Chances are you have seen me around town. I could be your neighbor. Our children could attend school together. Maybe we are already friends and you are using this anonymous terrain to let me know how you really feel about my appearance.

How expensive can the upgrade be? san luis obisbo has an HD local news show, almost every podcast made in a basement has higher picture quality and production values than KEYT. It's not like they will become my news source if they go HD, I'm just baffled that they haven't by now. It's a little weird. How they can legitimately enter contract negotiations with that kind of output is just funny.

I am a person who smokes. It is something I do, it is not who I am. I do not believe the world is my ashtray. My cigarettes are properly extinguished and tossed in the trash where they belong. I am aware that second hand smoke is a health hazard and that many people find the smell offensive, so I make a conscious effort to not be around non-smokers when I choose to have a cigarette. I do not appreciate the generalizations and accusations posted here about people who smoke. Having a bad habit does not make one a bad person.

There is a shortage of large venue properties in Goleta. There are a standard amount of smaller vacant office type properties. There is no huge surplus of anything property wise in this area. It's not a bad thing -Goleta now has a strong tech/mfg base - it will only get more robust. And some of us are making due quite nicely with the space we already have.

Excessive? Are you kidding me? #1 Deckers is staying here and moving into a 152,000 square foot building on that lot. #2 and MOST IMPORTANTLY. Goleta's unemployment rate is 3.6%, no not 13.6%, 3.6%. Goleta is growing, not laying off people. More space means more business in Goleta which has become home to manufacturing companies despite the economy.

310399 - here's a fun little story related to your comment about preemptively tattooing the olympic rings on oneself. Jason Terry of the Dallas Mavericks got a tattoo of the Larry O'Brien NBA championship trophy in the 2010 offseason on the premise that they were going to win the 2011 championship, which they did against all odds. i am in no way, shape or form a mavericks fan but i did end up with my foot in my mouth after chastising his decision to get that tattoo all season. perhaps it gave him some personal motivation as a constant and permanent reminder of his goals.

To those that want go cart tracks and want other uses for the land, I suggest you buy the land and then you can do with it as you wish. Otherwise pipe down as the property owner who bought, paid for, and maintains property should do with it as they want. I just love it how some want to tell others what they should and should not do with their own property.

Seriously. The more businesses (particualrly high tech) that come into the area, whether or not they build new buildings, has a huge, positive, ripple effect. More money for the local restaurants / stores, more need for local hotels, more use of the airport, leading to more airlines / routes into SBA. Etc, etc. The only downside is traffic. I work next door to the new Deckers construction, and recently the traffic going to the 101 at rush hour on Los Carneros is ridiculous. This problem will only get worse, and I'm sure the folks at city hall are aware they have a problem on their hands.

458P, no one was saying the owner of whatever land you're referring to needs to do anything. we were both observing the lack of a local kart track, i was merely suggesting that the old chrysler dealership they tore down is an ideal location due to it's distance from residential or commercial development and the fact that it's directly under the airport flight path which will prevent another structure from replacing it in the future and exceed. believe me, if i was a trust fund baby and not someone working full time just to make rent and pay off the loans i had to take out to get a decent education, i would certainly enjoy buying land and operating a recreational facility for my community to enjoy.

I gotta say I was 15 when Woodstock happened and didn't make it there, but saw the documentary and sure wished that I had done it. One of the highlights (and it was AMAZING, man!) was Joe Cocker's performance. When I met my husband, one of the things that drew us together was our love of the music of our generation. Last night us two old farts put our arms around each other and shared "a moment" of recognition when Joe Cocker stepped to the mike and sang "With a Little Help From My Friends." We were transported in time. We were young again. We rocked, swayed and smiled. It was very, very good. It was wonderful. It was cool. I LOVED it.

Some number of years ago, there was a kart track on land near the Goleta Valley Health Club. A child was hurt and the owners were sued and went bankrupt. Insurance for things like kart tracks is prohibitive. Until there is some kind of tort reform, we will all be held hostage by the lawyers and no one will take the chance on loosing everything by opening things like kart tracks.

Goleta Office Buildings |

As others have already stated, Deckers staying in Goleta is ideal for Goleta. The new campus will look amazing, reflecting the culture. Deckers intention is to make a headquarters that it can stay at for a very long time. If they didn't get that plot, then they would have had to have left Goleta. Renovating the other buildings is not an option. Currently Deckers rents 3 buildings. Renting more doesn't really help the problem. Increased freeway traffic is not an issue, Deckers primary office is already off of fairview, so any traffic they'd cause is already there, just 1 mile over.

I'm assuming most of those who are vehemently against tattoos are around baby boomer age since most people iny generation (I'm 26) have realized the social acceptance of body art in both professional and non professional settings. The art of tattooing is centuries old and is not a fad. We just aren't preoccupied with the religous notions of "purity" that were ingrained in prior generations. Even if it was a "trend", there are trends in your generations we wouldn't be caught dead in (Hawaiian shirts, hair scrunchies, bumper stickers about your kids honor roll- just to name a few), but it would be wrong to make judgement on your character because these too are forms of expression. On behalf of my tattood peers, I ask that you not make such harsh judgements. Why don't you ask the next person their personal reason for getting one, and you may learn something interesting.

Probably too late but just got on computer... This last Saturday I had my contractor install two triangle shade sails over my deck, and we had to buy other support hinges to accomplish what we needed to do. Bought the 11'10" x 3-sided shades by Coolaroo at Home Improvement Center on Guitierrez (sp?) for $110.each and I was about to order on-line for approx. $90/but they were sitting there and my contractor was available so I just bought them for convenience. They look great and having them installed by someone savvy is the key.

As a business investor I look for diversity. If the leadership of an organization is narrow minded or carries their prejudice into the hiring process then they are a high risk investment. Top talent is found in all forms. My guess is that people who have tattoos would be very unhappy if they did end up in that sort of organization. Your loss, not theirs.

I have family members who were members of the ES gang in SB. This is not a social club nor is it something that can be turned into something positive. These kids are killing eachother to fight over land they don't even own. Something is seriously wrong with a society that allows this type of behavior and then says it is because white people are picking on non-whites. This is not a racial thing it is something that needs to be eradicated from society before more people die. 517P when your family member dies alone in the street after a fight over East side West side geography you can talk about who these people really are, until then don't try to understand something you know nothing about. Gangs are no good.

Actually what happen was my husband showed up to do a service call for the Pest Control company he works for and the owners of the house weren't home. He smelled smoke and saw that the back of garage on the outside was on fire. Called 911, found garden hose and was able to get it almost all the way out by the time fire dept showed up! He said flames were shooting up at least 15'+! Fire Dept. said if he hadn't been there house would have been well into being inglufed in flames in 10 mins! I swear all this is true! He just called me and is a ball of nerves now that it's over. He can't believe it all happened.

I am reminded of Circon who had one huge banner year (front page of Forbes) and proceeded to build the large monstrosity at 6500 Hollister Ave. Within the next year they struggled, were acquired by their competitor who closed them down and moved the jobs out of Goleta. The building sat empty a long time too, that has changed with time. Hopefully Deckers is not over extending itself and depending entirely on growth projections from the experts as well. I wish them luck.

I LOVED it. Huey Lewis was really fabulous too. So sorry to learn he left the stage and went to the hospital. Hope he is doing well today.

This was really a lucky situation. 505P-Your husband not only certainly saved the garage and house but he may have saved the whole neighborhood up there. The house with the fire is bordered closely on both sides by two neighboring houses and in the back by a tinder dry barranca. One can only imagine what could have happened had he not been there to stop the fire. Apparently, the fire started in some newpapers/papers that were stacked near the outdoor BBQ. Good work Mr. Pest Control guy!

@497: I respectfully disagree with your "Traffic Study". Traffic on the Freeway is not the issue that @465 pointed out. It's the traffic at & around on-and off-ramps PLUS the traffic at the already-busy intersections in the area. Traffic at Fairview has nothing to do with it. However, I commend Deckers for staying in the area & not out-sourcing jobs overseas.

Howdy folks - It's Dax from the tech segment on KEY news in the morning :). The content of the news is certainly something worthy of discussion, and to that end I am always soliciting our viewers for ideas to present on air; I'm not paid by KEYT or any other entity to do the segment, and rely on our community to get ideas for stories/presentations/demos. I do the segment because I enjoy it, and hope people find it helpful - I'd really like to present you all with stories you enjoy too, so please do reach out and let me know if there is something I should talk about on air! I can't say I disagree with a lot of the sentiment here on the board...and hopefully this won't be surprising, but I don't subscribe to a television service. I 'cut the cord' 5 years ago w/ a Roku (I now use AppleTV) and haven't looked back once (Netflix, Amazon, and ipad/macbook mirroring). Thanks to all who do watch - see you on air, or on twitter!

Ummm... it's sort of untrue that there's a whole lot of vacant commercial space for rent in Goleta. It has to be zoned right, the right size, and the right price for the potential tenants. Everything I've found is zoned wrong (retail or office only, and we want mfg w/ limited retail), &/or is too big or too costly. It's got to be the right space for the kind of business that needs to use it -- security, zoning, amenities, access, parking, etc. I'm happy that Deckers decided that they'd stay in Goleta and build what they needed. Perhaps their vacated space at the airport could be rented by something airport related again? [Hint to property owners. If it's sitting vacant for a long time, you might consider lowering the rent, subdividing it, improving the security or access, reviewing the zoning, etc.]

Of all the people across the state of California who live butted up against National Forest, Montecito folks are obviously the least able to pay up to $150/house for suffering the slings and arrows of such a lifestyle.

Concert was fabulous! Huey and his large band played the first half, Joe Cocker and his band the second half. Both were awesome, tons of fun! I hope that Huey is alright, would love to know that he is! Coincidentally my husband and Joe Cocker were on the same flight to Denver this morning. Hubbie told Joe how much we loved the show and to "keep on rockin" and Joe told him he was really tired but would be back out performing in a couple weeks time. Sooo glad we were there... and with a couple of great friends to boot@ Many, many thanks I & S!!!

@310536 in re cold fusion, that's a fallacy of denial of the antecedent and an example of what Quine called "nefarious rhetoric". Also, your implication that, because initial quantum computing is focused on known problems easily solved with other technologies that it won't go anywhere is obviously fallacious. Call me crazy, but I'll go with the computational physicists with soaring IQs over the contra-logical opinions of an unknown internet commenter.

No. This is a bad idea. Many times I have seen happy people around town freely wearing Deckers flip flops while they merrily ride their cruiser bicycles. These people are relaxed and happy but come on people, safety first. We must be cautious at all times, some one could get a toe caught in their bicycle chain and then what? This is a nightmare. Someone could get hurt. No. Not here. Deckers is up to no good and they must go.

Goleta is the future, Santa Barbara is the past. Goleta is building to attract jobs and companies, and they have a low rate of unemployment. Santa Barbara is built out, with ridiculously difficult building standards, with boards that make arbitrary and political decisions about your project. The only thing Santa Barbara is building is high-density housing for the poor and homeless. Goleta will have jobs and suburban homes. Santa Barbara will be for the rich in the hills, and the enviros, hippie set, poor and homeless in its downtown core. The only jobs in SB are government and tourism. Which is the progressive city? If you measure in terms of progress, it's Goleta.

@435P If you're still reading this thread----thanks for mentioning the wetlands. How sad for everyone that so many people think it is okay to concrete what is left of our precious wetlands. Every time I pass the construction site (via public transpo), I feel bad about the ignorance that allowed this project to move forward. We need more wetlands, open space, trees, and green areas. Period. Goleta is now being ravaged by development. Heaven help us all. (Not religious, but you get my meaning.)

NO! When jobs are a plenty in this county, I work more. When construction co have reached there limit of jobs, they don't bid as low on the next job, so there are more jobs for the next company to bid low and get a job. This country would stop dead in its tracks if we did not have people to build and fix infrastructure.

I have been a nurse for many years, and have seen my share of tattoos....it used to just be the prison gang guys, but now it seems no young person is left un-inked. My favorite comment a few years ago, came from a rotund middle aged woman. I had to check her abdomen and was surprised to find a tattoo. To which she said, "it used to be a butterfly, now it's a moth!"

Common sense dictates that those who get their skin inked intentionally (when not drunk or drugged out) with more than a small and/or unobtrusive marking have low self-esteem. It is a ploy to make him/her stand out from the crowd. It is a cry for attention. Otherwise, why permanently disfigure your skin to such an extent? "Look at me!" it shouts. In my early 30s, I had a wonderful, smart and well-liked boyfriend. He had a small tattoo inked into his upper arm. (His beautiful skin . . .) He asked me why I wouldn't get a tattoo. I showed him my lovely sterling silver bracelet, which I had on at the time. I said to him, "I really really really love this bracelet. But, as much as I love it, I don't want to wear it for the rest of my life." I treasure my beautiful, healthy skin too much to poison it with ink.

It is possible, isn't it, that he wasn't hydrated enough for this heat? It can't be easy, traveling all over, and the body needs to adjust to the different climates. If it is true he wasn't feeling well, I hope he's okay. We saw Huey Lewis & The News play at the County Fair in Paso Robles, about 25 years ago. We bought our tickets over the phone, and ended up seated BEHIND the band! Huey gave us cheap-seaters so much of his attention---we got to see his face more than the rest of the audience! Gotta love his graciousness. Best to you, Huey.

Thought: Like many fashion trends, tattoos became popular in mainstream society only after they became more prevalent in prison. I am not kidding. Examples...baggy white t-shirts, low slung pants, do rags, etc. It's funny, people can have their notion of why they think they like or want something like a tat, but then there is the larger social context and origin of what they are mimicking or being influenced to want.

You would be surprised at how many people with Hep C, who claim no exposure risks,(no IV drug abuse, sex partner with Hep C etc.) have tattoos. If they don't use unopened, NEW needles and unopened, NEW ink your tat may give you a personal smouldering virus along with your personal "art."

According to this thread, tattoos... • Are stupid. • Are unpopular. • Are better than piercings. • Are purely for attention. • Are purely personal and a matter of taste. • Are a respectable form of permanent self-expression. • Are not, in fact, unpopular. • Are the norm, not the exception. • Are evidence of someone being temporarily insane. • Are bad for your skin. • Are a fad. • Are a sign of immaturity. • Are for sheep(le?) • Are okay for ethnic individuals or Navy veterans. • Are either done when inebriated or by sober people with low self-esteem. • Are akin to baggy pants and other bad fashion trends. Talk about a thread with diverse opinions.
