I live on the Westside, between Victoria & Micheltorena and I used to get my newspaper stolen occasionally. Really pissed me off too! So, I started getting up really early, then swapping out my good newspaper for a cat-poopie-litter clump filled newspaper!!

Then, one day after setting out the fake paper, I stayed low on my front porch reading the real paper, when, sure enough, some idiot tried to steal the fake paper!! Caught him red-handed and took some pictures of him, as he walked off. I should have told him to keep the paper (cat-poopie-litter clump filled one)!!!

Westside Stabbings

2013-02-26 01:44 AM

Guns kept in the home for self-protection are 43 times more likely to kill a family member, friend or acquaintance than to kill an intruder, according to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Guns on the street or in the house make us less safe. According to the FBI, for every justifiable handgun homicide, there are more than 50 handgun murders.

------------------

Britain has a much stricter gun control culture with relatively few guns in households. You couldn´t get a more murder free society than Britain or Japan which has banned practically all guns. In contrast, America has as many firearms as there are people – a situation made irreversibly dangerous knowing that guns have at least a 100-year life cycle.

In 2010, roughly 70% of US homicides were by gun whereas in Britain including Northern Ireland only 9% were by gun. In the US in 2012 the total firearm-related death rate including both suicides and homicides was 10.2 per 100,000; in France the comparative figure was 3.0; in Britain, 0.25 . So the US firearms-related death rate was about 40 times that of Britain!

Ethanol, the kind of alcohol in booze, has two carbon atoms. Isopropanol, or isopropyl alcohol, or rubbing alcohol, has three carbons. An alcohol has a carbon atom replaced by -OH. It's a class of chemical. Denaturing means adding chemicals to ethanol so that it's not drinkable. The word doesn't apply to rubbing alcohol. Marvak Electronics for 99% isopropanol.

Ohana means family. That's what they kept telling us when they bought it. But blood is not thicker than cash flow, so on to the next victim... Good Luck to the next owners, may the Chumash spirits smile upon your venture.

Child Burn Victim

2013-02-26 06:52 AM

The mother was working, had no one to care for her child. So many working mothers face this dilemma. I'm assuming this mother had no idea about a few things: the laws, how to get help with her child, that her vehicle was unsafe. She had to get to work or get fired. I bet the "employer" of the mother had no clue and possibly didn't care about the mothers dilemma to make this choice. I imagine how terrible the mother feels, and how if she faces legal charges she will lose her child. Imagine how the child feels, with a memory of almost being burned alive, the suffering of the scars she'll have forever, no mother to care for her.

We're non-Catholic and have had excellent experiences at both Marymount and our neighborhood public school. The faith-based curricula at Marymount allowed for some great discussions at home & definitely made our older children think deeply about their own beliefs. We couldn't afford the tuition (almost $20,000/year!) by the time our younger kids came along, but found our public school to be even better in terms of instruction and diversity of offerings. (As another commenter pointed out, more students = more opportunities.) In both cases involved parents made a huge positive impact on the schools, so good for you for making this a priority!

Any specific documented cases of abuse at Bishop HS? How 'bout other local schools?. How do the track records compare? Whether you decide "yes" or "no" to Catholic schooling, don't let your decision be made based on paranoia or limited anecdotal data. Some of what went on in Catholic schools in the LA area over the years can well be described as atrocities, but ya know what? so can some of what's gone on in the LA area public schools over the same periods of time, and the teachers union in LA has been every bit as proactive in covering for their members' indiscretions as the RC Church has with theirs.

The child-molestation has nothing to do with a Catholic School education. That's about as brilliant as stating that if your child attends a public school they will be shot.

I attended Catholic school for eight years and then switched to public school. I was light years ahead of the public school kids in every subject. There was usually one teacher, a nun, but occasionally a lay teacher (or the un-nun as we called them) for the entire year that taught us math, geography, English, "social studies", religion and history.

Judging from class photos, we had more kids in our Catholic school classes than my friends at Roosevelt. But amazingly, for far less money than the overfunded public schools I got a better education.

I've been touring schools around town trying to decide where to send my child too. I've toured public schools with 30 kids per class and wondered how they are learning anything with that many kids in the classes. The Catholic schools had considerably fewer kids per class (18-20). I toured a non-catholic, faith-based school that has kids memorizing Bible verses every week which I don't necessarily think is a useful endeavor. Having attended a Catholic school myself as a child (not in SB), I remember the teachings of Jesus as lessons in morality - right and wrong. Some local Catholic schools have courses in spirituality and other religious studies for kids who are not Catholic.

The writer who said "I stopped believing" in high school, didn't say anything about not believing in the teachings of Jesus. I took it to mean doesn't believe in a big man with a beard up in the clouds running the show. High school and college is the time when young people typically question whether the stories about a god are true. Who would question the philosophy of love and acceptance taught by Jesus? That Jewish-Christian philosophy is easily acceptable by today's youth. It's the Catholic teachings of No birth control, No women in positions of authority, No acceptance of homosexuality that are so offensive to the majority in our society today. I also wanted my children in smaller classes, but didn't want them taught the Catholic dogma, which my Catholic friends don't believe either!

If people want to send their child to a parochial school they have the right to do so, as you have the right to disagree with their choice. However, your belief should not mean teaching religion at places other than the home should be abolished. Go to another country if you want to live where education or religion is not freely available. And regarding suggestions to attend private schools instead, well I would suggest that the majority of readers can not afford the tuition at Anacapa or Laguna Blanca.

Catholic School

2013-02-26 08:57 AM

I am a lapsed Catholic and have been for some time.
My ex-spouse was a non-Catholic. Our kids, nonetheless, went to a local Catholic school (Notre Dame) and did very well there and received a good, more rigorous education than did some of their friends who attended local public schools. There were non-Catholic, even non-Christian, students in their classes and they did fine, were 100% accepted and were accommodated regarding religious practice.
Both my kids transitioned to local public high schools, one is now in a top notch college (one still in HS) and they continue to do well.
I have serious reservations regarding the RCC as an institution, but that institution does not equate to Catholic education in general or locally. The abuses that occurred locally, while horrible, were at a seminary, not a school. Some of the other private school options mentioned here cost in excess of $20,000 a year which is a decided factor for most. Always better to deal with facts rather than preconceived ideas or prejudices.

Catholic School

2013-02-26 08:57 AM

Having attended Catholic schools and even a Catholic university, I can't even imagine how confusing it would have been if I had to go home to parents who were not believers. That seems to be a double standard, but that having been said, I think offering your child an exposure to Christian beliefs so that they can at least have the spiritual aspect in their lives would be a great benefit to them. There is no doubt the academics are superior in Catholic, Christian and private schools.

I sent my son to SB Christian School and was extremely pleased with the religious teaching as well as the academics.

If I did not have any Christian beliefs and did not want to foster any in my child I would probably choose a good private school over a Christian school.

Public schools teach the difference between right and wrong!!! They teach that it's not right to bully. They teach mediation skills so students can learn to settle differences. They just don't teach religious dogma, such as sex is a sin. They teach instead that IF you decide to have sex (as the average high school student does at 16.5 years old) you need to be responsible and not bring children into the world that you can't take care of.

Ond day it will explode when we realize that every packaged item typically found within a grocery store is laden with GMO. It will end up that GMO has contributed significantly to the various metabolic disorders. It has not been just sugar and salt.

The real blame is governmental policies that favored unhealthy farm subsidies in corn, soy, meat and dairy. Of course the industry authored or cowrote many of the legislation that pleases not only big ag and denatured food products, but the medical and pharmaceutical industry.

I've seen kids from St. Raphael and Coastline transfer to Goleta elementary schools and be at least a year behind in math. Don't buy the line that religious schools are always ahead. I was sent to a religious school, and the academics were very low compared to the local public schools, because the teachers had very little training.

If you can afford Marymount, their academics are fairly high from the work I've seen friends' kids doing. (However, the parents planned to have their kids go to DPHS for its strong academics, but the kids want to go where their friends are going at that point, mostly San Marcos.)

@745P: Tour some Goleta schools if you have the flexibility to move. Class sizes are around 20 for K-3 and around 24 for 4-6.

Most public schools teach the "Character Counts" curriculum, which teaches kids trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.

I believe he was fined (I am sure a mere pittance in his world), and told to stop. His excuse (or wait, his spokesman's excuse): "Eucalyptus is an invasive species." If you go cruising around out there, you will have the COPS called on you and probably get poison oak. So much for galavanting around on the fabulous Gaviota coast.

And as electric rates rise, they are laughing all the way to the bank. Also, due to the pioneers that chose to invest in PV technology, panels prices have fallen from over $4/watt wholesale in 2006 to less than $1/watt today.

The recent shooting and these stabbings are all linked to the Mexican Mafia... or the "EME". What was supposed to be a football game turned into a meeting and instruction about the "new rules". They are now going to be collectiong "tax" ( $1000 a month) from the local Eastsiders, Westsiders, Rock Creek and any drug dealer. Kind of like a royalty for claiming 13 ( South ). They are going after any drug dealer... gang member or not, Hispanic or White, and taking their cut. The Eastsiders and Westsiders are now fighting over who is going to be the one collecting. The guy who got shot the other day was a drug dealer from Ventura who did not want to pay "tax". Our local law enforcement need to get a handle on this right now, or we are all going to have our beautiful city ruined.

We WERE practicing Catholics when we sent our son to a local Catholic school for grades 1-5 and our daughter from K-3. The academic's were very much lacking. Kids were BORED to tears and we were doing all we could to provide them enrichment opportunities elsewhere. If I had a "do over" option I never would have sent them to the Catholic schools. Returning to our local public elementary, junior high and high school was the best decision we ever made! (Our kids were GATE students and did very well at all grade levels, so I can only speak to that experience. Not sure what it would have been like if they were not as strong academically.)

Best of luck in making your decision. It's tough and it's important!

My children attended a wonderful Catholic School in a different County before our move to Goleta. I then enrolled them in a Catholic School here and found the school to be clicky and really focused on who had more money. One of my children was being bullied and when I asked for both sets of parents and kids to meet with the Prinicipal I was told that " it was my child" although this child had been a known bully for years. Just had a different victim each year. Pulled kids after a year and sent to Goleta Schools. Best decision ever. More variety of academics and friends. While our previous experience was amazinga and much like a family, Santa Barbara Catholic schools did not feel the same at al.. Good luck with your search- As a parent for 20+ years I know how stressful making sure your child gets the best education can be.

My employers from way back sent their kids to Catholic school. And mom was on the public school board so make of that what you will. Both parents and kids felt the education they got in Catholic school was far superior to what they'd been getting in public school. As for feeling 'left out", they're not going to be left out of any of the school's religious activities. They'll be going to regular prayer services just like everyone else. Catholic schools have the same social cliques as every other school, public and private so your kid's just as likely to face social challenges in Catholic school as anywhere else.

OP here - thanks so much for the helpful responses! Although it seems a little all over the place in terms of catholic education either being "way above" or "way behind" public school education. I am touring ND school soon and have many questions. I've already toured SR and noticed the class size was even bigger than our neighborhood public school. I am also considering a Christian private school. I am not discounting any choices so it's not a private vs. public argument at all. I just want to find the best fit for my family and like some of you mentioned, it's stressful! I cannot afford Laguna or Marymount so I am looking at mid-range priced private or may just pick my neighborhood public school. Here's to firing the cops!

Pedestrian vs. Jaywalker

2013-02-26 12:12 PM

You're not wrong, but in CA the pedestrian has the right-of-way. It's not a Santa Barbara rule, but a State rule. The logic is cars are more dangerous than peds, so they must yield right-of-way. But peds can also be jaywalkers and do get cite for it.

Can you be more specific about places where you see this problem?

Many people are not aware of the legal definition of jaywalking. Did you know that it is in fact legal to cross a street mid-block under many circumstances?

It is only forbidden to cross mid-block if there are traffic signals at the adjacent intersections. See California Vehicle Code 21954-21955.

The code does specify that the pedestrian has to yield right of way and take care not to be a hazard if he/she is outside of a crosswalk. But it is legal.

Pedestrian vs. Jaywalker

2013-02-26 12:30 PM

Pedestrians attempting to cross the road are NOT jaywalkers if they are crossing at intersections or designated crosswalks. However they must also exercise caution and cross when safe to do so.

Drivers must drive with caution and look for pedestrians as well as bicyclists, motorcyclists and others using the road or attempting to cross the road. Not seeing a pedestrian is a lame excuse for driving carelessly.

More and more pedestrian-vehicle collisions are the result of shared irresponsibility: pedestrians expecting cars to give way and drivers not paying attention. Just a set up for the Darwin Awards, I'm afraid.

It was designated as a County Historic Landmark, in part, because the original design is a very attractive beach cabana designed by noted architect Mary Craig around 1930. It has been covered with plywood temporarily to protect it from vandalism until it is restored, which the current owners plan to do. They also plan to restore the funicular to again provide access from the top of the bluff. The County was wise in taking steps to preserve the cabana as it is one of only two surviving in the county.

In 2010 we toured several of the private schools mentioned, both parochial and non. We discussed our search with many friends and received similar insight. Everything discussed so far is accurate...at the end of the day you do what's best for your particular kids as they only get one chance at an education.

As a side note that we found a sizable minority of students in these private schools were kids that just "didn't fit in" and had behavior and discipline issues at public schools. The private schools, at the end of the day, will take nearly any kid that can afford the tuition or receives subsidies from the parish, etc. No criticism of these kids or parents, but it raised huge red flags for us.

Pedestrian vs. Jaywalker

2013-02-26 12:52 PM

I am always over cautious around bicyclists and pedestrians, I always assume they are unpredictable. Many times they are aware they have the right away and aren't cautious enough (in my experience). I will say, I have jaywalked, and learned my lesson. A few months ago I was in a hurry for a downtown appt, with my two older kids, and baby in a stroller. The entrance to the building was mid-block on a street that was off of State street. Because we were so late it was "easier" to cross, then go down to the cross walk. There were no cars coming, it was safe, so we preceded. My older kids were almost across when I stepped off the curb pushing the stroller. I wasn't prepared for how big a step it was and my ankle twisted. I stumbled a few steps, the stroller was pushed across as I fell in the street. I could hear my kids call out for me, then my oldest cried out for the baby. The stroller had tipped over when it hit the opposite curb. She picked it up, (luckily baby was in his car seat). I could hear a car turing from State, coming up the street. Wasn't sure if they saw me, I crawled as quickly as I could across the center line, and jumped up. My daughter said the car never slowed down or attempted to stop. I can only assume they didn't see me. Terrible terrible day, horrible decision, good lesson.

Hmm... I can tell you where I see the problem. Just drive by any high school or jr. high when school gets out.

This is my concern: I am amazed at the number of kids who step off the curb without looking. Some are indignant and defiant in the face of oncoming traffic while others are texting or talking. Simply amazing. I don't understand that mindset, but my kids know to use the crosswalk, look both ways and don't ever assume the driver sees you unless you make eye contact.

Seems like they weren't generalizing, just saying that probably this guy and some of his peers probably don't have college degrees and that it is hard to find a living wage job in general, especially if you don't have a degree. Certainly there are plenty of high school graduates working for minimum wage and not stealing stuff from cars. But the temptation to be a criminal probably rises if you weren't a good student and can't find a decent job. Plus once you have a record, what are the chance of getting decent wage then?

What is the answer to this problem?

Stop A Stop Sign

That raising the speed limit thing is because if the majority of the traffic is going faster than the posted speed limit, they assume that means that it is safe to do so. That is one reason that you can get out of a speeding ticket if they have not done a speed survey recently because you can argue that they don't really know what the average speed on the road is. Of course it only works if you are just few miles over the limit.

If the City won't allow you to prune the trees in their easement, then they need to come by and do it themselves more than once every 10 yrs. We have a bunch of bottle brush trees on our street that were trimmed slightly several years ago. Since then, at least 2 medium size branches have snapped off in calm conditions and one broke out the rear window of the car. The City told the car owner they didn't have any liability for that.

If they don't have liability, then I will assume responsibility for their trees and have been trimming the ones they recently planted in front of my house. It will never get over 12 ft tall as long as I live there.

The Montecito Fire Protection District responded to a reported broken gas main at the intersection of Butterfly and High Road at 10:47 a.m.

The break occurred when a backhoe accidently hit a gas line while working in the area.

The Southern California Gas Company was called to the scene and they were able to secure the leak at 12:50 p.m. Approx. 28 nearby homes in the area can expect to be without gas until the main gas line can be repaired.

Gas Company Field Supervisor Joe Azuna estimated that gas will be restored to the area sometime after 2:30 p.m..

The following intersections remain closed to traffic until the area is safe, and the leak is secured:

Butterfly Lane / Oriole Road
Butterfly Lane / Middle Road
High Road / Middle Road

There were 2 engines, 1 rescue vehicle, and several command vehicles on scene. Agencies on scene include Montecito Fire, Santa Barbara City Fire, The Southern California Gas Company, and Santa Barbara County Public Works.

Just for clarification the property owner does indeed own the beach, there maybe an easement for the public to walk on their land, keyword, maybe, but as proven by the survey study for the Miramar Hotel, the property owner, in some cases, owns far into the tide line, only a professional survey can determine where that line is. Of course, there are restrictions on use of their land that is sand.....

The very responsible owners of the Bryce Beach Cabana are looking forward to returning it back to it's original grandeur right down to the color in the near future once all needed approvals have been secured.

I agree it's dangerous that pedestrians would always have the right of way unless it's a crosswalk, light or stop sign. I would never expect a car barreling down Santa Barbara street to stop for me at a corner unless they have a stop sign or crosswalk because it would cause a traffic hazard for those behind him.

Pedestrian vs. Jaywalker

2013-02-26 04:01 PM

I walk a lot and there really are definitely a lot of distracted drivers out there. The streets around Alameda Park, especially the north-south cross streets are often scary to cross. The intersections by Ralphs downtown and at DLV and Alamar, even with lights and crosswalks, can be hazardous with cars making turns. The other side of the coin, however, is that some drivers, trying to be good Samaritans, slam their brakes on at each and every intersection if they see a pedestrian approaching or even nearby. Quite frankly, I prefer in most cases to wait for traffic to pass and then cross when it's safe to do so. It can be a problem and, indeed, it's a "two-way street" in keeping safe and always remaining alert.

Main Gas Break

2013-02-26 04:08 PM

I walk by here every day. I saw that they had done an underground survey in the area. You know, the "legal graffiti" that they spray paint on the street in multi-colors, and don't arrest anyone. After all that, a gas line was ruptured digging. Who is accountable? The operator on the County-owned backhoe (yes it had their sticker),or the people who did the underground survey (don't use the excuse that the line wasn't installed where the drawing said; that's what detectors are for).
Also strange is the Caution Tapes and No Trespassing Signs that have been along the adjacent property owner's "lot line" since about 3 weeks ago. What's that about? The property owner doesn't want the County putting the culvert on "private property"?

Pedestrian vs. Jaywalker

2013-02-26 04:26 PM

Pedestrians have the right of way at all intersections.

If you drive by a school regularly, you should be aware that you're in a school zone, and should always exercise extra caution. Yes, kids will do careless things like step off curbs without looking, and that is why there are always plenty of signs to tell you that you're in a school zone. The speed limits are lower and the traffic fines are higher in school zones for this reason. Kids being careless does not give drivers the right to be careless too.

Better idea: Avoid driving on streets that are adjacent to schools. There is always more traffic and more pedestrians near schools, just pick another route!

At my Catholic High school we were taught evolution. All the Juniors read the Catcher in the Rye. I suppose any irate parents were told that they were welcome to go elsewhere. Protestants and Jews ( 2 of each that I knew) were excused from religion class. I do recall that my freshman year English lit book included J. Edwards' Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, that's as Protestant as you can get.. There is a great freedom from outside political pressures, and nothing like the close-mindedness of "Christian" schools. I knew 2 kids whose parents were on local school boards, not likely today as everything about you is subject to more scrutiny.

Gotta love the edhat xenophobia. I'm at a loss to understand how people can be upset that they live in a city so beautiful that people want to visit it for a brief moment and pay a ton of money to do it. And they're doing it in a way that has no impact on traffic, parking, short-term rentals, etc. They come in, dump a ton of money, and leave after dinner.

And these aren't poor people or even the bottom end of the cruise industry. Princess, Crystal, and Celebrity are respectable lines that charge premium rates. The people who cruise those lines have money and like nice things. They go to nice places and buy nice things then they leave. What else could Santa Barbarians possibly want in tourists???

If you don't like tourists, don't live in a nice city. Trade your Santa Barbara home for a thousand acres in Montana and nobody will ever bother you again.

Sure come on in and vomit your thousands of tourists on to our shores so they can mix in with the other thousands of tourists that drive and fly in. Imagine a day with no out of town collage students, no tourists, half the homeless, half the illegal aliens, and that's how Santa Barbara was when I was growing up. On a busy weekend that number of people might be a quarter, or more, of the population. Come on Santa Barbara, you need to show a little more leg to get more customers.

Roger, check all the hose bibs for hoses. There is a trick I learned years ago about people stealing water for their neighbors. They turn off their meter and use water from your meter via a hose to hose connection. 170 unit X 748 gallons = 127,160 gallons per month. That is a lot of water to be used, especially if you can't find a leak.

Pedestrian vs. Jaywalker

2013-02-26 06:24 PM

Modern living is so demanding of precious time that we are running short of it; why are so many people always in such a hurry?

One common reason is the FEAR of being late to work; the specter of losing your job/livelihood on account of being late just one time (and maybe, consequently, your home, your respect, your credit rating, and your health, etc etc) is a form of terrorism - economic terrorism - that is held over us by faceless bureaucrats and corporate drones who love to wield a bit of power, just because they can.

Residential Vegetation Fire

2013-02-26 07:47 PM

My mother had this thing about letting coals burn themselves out. We had a small tabletop grill that she wouldn't let me extinguish after we used it one evening.

At 4:30 AM I was awakened by the sound of a roaring fire - somehow the coals fell onto the redwood picnic table below the grill and then ignited the wooden fencing nearby. The house was minutes from going up in flames. Common sense, indeed.

878 has it right legally. It doesn't matter where you are, pedestrians have the right of way. Take as an example, the young man who was drunk and walking in the middle of the freeway. He got hit, and even though he should have not been there, the guy who hit him is being criminalized. The basic premise is that the order of right of way goes, pedestrian, horse, bike, motorcycle, car/pickup, commercial vehicle. But this is simply out of respect for life. Generally, in terms of locomotion, the more vulnerable you are the the more right of way you have.

Child Burn Victim

2013-02-26 08:23 PM

Yes 891. We don't know the details of this terrible event, but it's very common for domestic workers to bring children with them. School may not be session, the child may be ill or the parents can’t afford to pay for care that costs more than they earn while wiping the butts of the rich. When I was married to a wealthy man, his family was surrounded by "the help". Sometimes, they had to bring their little ones. A lot of these privileged "employers" think children in their home are a liability. It's also VERY psychological - they don't want to know that those who scrub their toilets are people too, with families. As the struggling single mother of a young child now, I get it. I’d make popcorn and find toys or books to help keep them busy while Mom was scrubbing sinks and Dad was cutting the lawn. But A LOT of employers will fire a worker for showing up with their child. Sometimes people just have to do what they have to do to survive. Many prayers to that little child and her family.

It creates an environment that builds confidence and I can see my daughter changing (in a good way!) The teachers are great, classes are small, electives are varied and intriguing, and the trips are life-changing. We don't mind the "rich kids" as they help fund the scholarships for us non-rich folks. We're very happy with our choice to send our child to SBMS.

Cottage Food Law

2013-02-26 08:54 PM

When is the County going to allow on-site prepared food at the farmers' markets? The Saturday market at the Ferry Building in San Francisco is filled with vendors cooking and grilling meats, vegies and seafood for noshing while shopping, and it makes for an incredible combined eating and shopping experience. Heck, even the Sunday farmer's market in Ojai has a vendor selling freshly steamed tamales for consumption on site!
If food safety is the issue, the County ought to ban most mass produced, supermarket-sold meats, eggs, poultry, cheese and produce given how many thousands of Americans suffer food poisoning every year from this supposedly "safe" supply chain.

I know if I were on a cruise that stopped here in "Beautiful Santa Barbara. The American Riviera" and all that other sweet talk about how wonderful Santa Barbara is and see what is lining our waterfront and under the palm trees, and just a little further they can be treated by the homeless who will accost them and ask for money, or wander into an area where the far too prevalent gunshots are now being exchanged, or perhaps a stabbing or two. Think they might think it is all staged like the train robbery at Knott's Berry Farm? How far in to do they actually go? Wouldn't it only be to the places within walking distance? I wouldn't think that it would be too far even with cab rides. And, remember that we all poop.

Pedestrian vs. Jaywalker

2013-02-26 09:29 PM

Funny that the OP asks the question today. I'm driving. I stop at the stop sign hold line. The guy behind me in the pickup starts honking his horn. He's mad because it's a bulb out and thinks that I should have stopped further on at the curb rather than the hold line. I think: what a moron.
And when I read the OP's comments I thought: what a moron. Don't you have a driver's licence? Where the hell are you from? Of coarse pedestrians have the right of way in a crosswalk. But, what makes Santa Barbara difficult for drivers iand dangerous for pedestrians is that crosswalks in Santa Barbara come in so many variations that drivers are confused as to what exactly is a cross walk where a pedestrian has the right of way. We are creating a very unsafe situation with this lack of having uniform crosswalk markings.
022-being late is narcissistic. Blaming your employer is also narcissistic and irresponsible. These narcissistic drivers not only endanger pedestrians but also other drivers with their "me first" driving, doing such things as running stop lights and stop skghs
