Hedda
Feb 9, 2006 - E.D. Doesn't Mean That

Yesterday was Heath Ledger day at the 37-character named film festival. Ledger received the Imperia Award and was the toast of the party at the Harley Davidson store on Haley and Chapala – the old tire store that changes tenants as often as Ed changes toasters (which is often, don’t ask).

We finally got around to seeing C.R.A.Z.Y., a coming of age story about a sexually confused teenager growing up in Montreal in the 1970’s. This has been one of the most popular films in the festival. Ed has always been fond of finding phallic symbols in movies. Since no one really believes in this type of subliminal messaging anymore, he thinks that the only reason they’re included in films is because the director is having a little fun. In C.R.A.Z.Y., there is a double smoke stack, to represent the main character’s homosexual feelings. Ed really liked that.

It was one nice touch in a film full of nice touches that makes this movie so good.

For your reading pleasure today, we have as many stories as C.R.A.Z.Y. has smokestacks. Babs Vilander was at the Heath Ledger tribute, and Lynn Montgomery was at the party. Kate Rotman, our guest photographer, went with Lynn to update our photo gallery for last night. They met up with our friend Hedda Moneycutts, whose picture just had to go on the Edhat home page. We called it, "Hedda on the Highway".

We’ve received a couple of emails this week from dedicated year-round local subscribers telling us that they don’t really care much for the festival. They also ask about the Edhat dog. “How is she doing?” “Does she feel abandoned?”

Well, we appreciate your feelings about the festival. If you’re one of those who doesn’t feel swooney about Clooney, and doesn’t have the hots for Watts, you really shouldn’t be too concerned. We cover things people don't care about year round. So, if you don't care about the film festival, then nothing should be different. :-)

About the dog – we would like to report that she’s doing just fine. In our never-ending quest to get all the stories,
Apple
we did briefly run out of dog food. But, we made it up to her by giving her biscuits for breakfast – not such a bad compromise.

Yesterday, they ran out of food at the festival press office as well. The staff there has been making up for it by ordering out from Chipolte. None of them were balancing burritos on their heads, at least while we were there. We did find a sad looking apple in the corner. It made a nice photo with the frog and flowers.
