Tour Bus Catches Fire in Montecito

A tour bus caught fire on Highway 101 in Montecito on Saturday evening.

At 6:40 p.m., Montecito firefighters responded to the reported vehicle fire on the southbound lanes near Sheffield Drive.

According to the fire department, the tour bus driver noticed something was wrong with the vehicle, pulled over, and evacuated the approximate 30 passengers to safety.

The engine of the bus caught fire and fully engulfed the vehicle.

Upon arrival crews were able to knock the fire down within minutes. There were no injuries

Highway 101 was closed for a period of time as the bus remained in the right lane blocking traffic. A heavy wrecker machine had to arrive to remove it. The left lane of Highway 101 reopened around 7:20 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
