Nov 21, 2003 - Santa Ynez Valley Real Estate

Congratulations to Chmura (93105) whose guess of $575,000 came closest to the actual average price of three bedroom houses, sold in the last three months, in the Santa Ynez Valley. According to the Santa Barbara Multiple Listing Book, there were eleven such houses ranging in sales price from $463,000 in Buelton to $869,000 in Los Olivos, with an average of $626,125.  Chmura wins two movie passes for his efforts.  Maybe he should see a Santa Ynez appropriate movie like Ten (or how ‘bout Elephant Man).

The dedicated staff at edhat.com was in Danny Briere’s office all day yesterday pumping him for data on the Santa Ynez real estate market. Buying property there seems like a good opportunity these days.  You probably could make good money renting out your home and driveway to all the paparazzi swarming around Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch.

The interactive map here displays 33 Santa Ynez properties - 22 currently for sale (red dots)  and
11 which sold in the last 3 months (blue dots).  You can mouse over the dots on the map to see details on the listings.  If the houses are too close together to separate, you can click on the grouping for a more detailed map.  Neverland Ranch is shown by the green dot.

Rumors has it that Michael Jackson is selling his ranch. You know what those zillionaires always say... it is hard to keep up a big house when you’re in the BIG HOUSE.  But market conditions for selling fancy homes in the Valley do not seem to be too good.  As you can see by mousing over the map, there are many million and multimillion dollar homes for sale, but, over the last couple of months, only the cheaper ones have sold.

Thanks to our sponsor coolmaps.com for the cool mapping interface. And thanks to Danny Brière of RE-MAX for providing us with the listing data.
