Lunch WITHOUT Louie Santa Barbara food reviews with Louie the pessimist food critic
Apr 28, 1:23 PM (PT) By Ed
Louie had to cancel lunch this week. He had some personal business that held a higher priority than sharing yet another meal with his friend Ed. This week there will be no waitress encounters, no overheard cell phone conversations, and no pasta with the life drained out of it. Instead, I went next door to the Daily Grind to get a turkey sandwich and a smoothie.
They have good turkey sandwiches at the Daily Grind, or at least I think they do. Louie would know better if they were good or not. He would know if the turkey was real or processed, if the bread was fresh, and if it is right or wrong to use green pepper slices. I got my sandwich without the pesto sauce, but maybe if Louie were there, I would have gotten it. Certainly pesto sauce would make the sandwich more avant-guard. And, if I got the pesto it would give Louie something to comment on … good or bad.
I really like the smoothies at Daily Grind. The Equinox is my favorite. It isn’t loaded down with frozen yogurt like other smoothies you get elsewhere. But, now again, I don’t really know for sure if the smoothies are good. I would need to know what Louie thinks first. I don’t even think Louie likes smoothies.
And, the barista who took my order … was she cute? Would Louie have fantasized about her? Was her skirt wider than lasagna noodles? I will never know.
I took the sandwich back to our office. Sitting there at my desk, I read the newspaper and listened to 64 dB’s of silence. I hope Louie can have lunch with me next week.
